What did Friedrich Nietzsche mean by "God is dead"?

Nietzsche was not stating that a literal deity died. Instead, he was diagnosing modern society, arguing that humanity has progressed to a point where it lives, acts, and structures culture as if God does not exist or matter.

How does Nietzsche’s philosophy connect to the idea of balancing sins?

When people indulge in sins for pleasure while only "pretending" to do good, they reduce God to a passive bystander. Then, their lifestyle aligns perfectly with Nietzsche's warning that society has culturally abandoned God by ignoring true divine presence and accountability.

Does Iblees have absolute power over human choices?

No, he does not. God explicitly declared that Iblees would have no authority over His sincere servants. Humans retain full free will, and the door to sincere repentance (Tawbah) remains open until a person's very last breath.

What If God Hadn’t Introduced the Concept of Heaven and Hell?

Why has God revealed the concept of heaven and hell if he wanted the sincerest results? This was my belief, or at least I used to think in this way once in my life.

The most Superior character in the universe, Allah, why did he choose to tell everyone that there is an afterlife? The life where I’ll remind you about all your deeds, good or bad, and you’ll get rewards- heaven or hell, respectively.

I used to think that if he had revealed all the metrics to get to heaven, then who would choose hell over anything. But I’m wrong; people have been choosing hell over heaven long ago.

There come questions; a lot of questions that I want to ask and answer in this piece. I’ve every creative freedom here to discuss whatever I want, and that’s what I love the most about having my own personal blog.

Is There an Afterlife?

Yes, there is an afterlife where you will return to life by the order of the Lord and walk towards him for a final judgement.

That day is renowned as the Day of Judgement, where you will be held guilty or not guilty and get rewards for what you have done in this life. There will be a Scale, “Meezan,” to weigh your good deeds against your bad deeds with perfect, absolute justice.

If your good deeds outweigh the sins, then you will be granted Heaven, and vice versa. But what if your good deeds and bad deeds are balanced equally?

In that case, there is no clear destination discussed, but Abu Jafer Tabri says: “The people who will have equal good deeds and bad deeds will be referred to Al-A'raf and later on will be rewarded with Heaven.”

This is what the majority of Muslims believe, and according to Muslim books it is the very right thing to believe in.

So, Is Al-A'raf an Escape for Muslims on the Earth?

No, Al-A'raf isn’t an escape for muslims on the Earth, but some people think they can balance their good and bad.

Genuinely, this is the most dangerous confidence they have. Sins have a speciality that they multiply with each other and lead us to somewhere we don’t exactly exist. They will start doing sins (with wholehearted enjoyment), but when it comes to good deeds, they just pretend to do good.

This is where the actual problem starts. They will ultimately begin to believe in doing whatever they can and balance it with just pretending to be good.

Maybe for these people, Friedrich Nietzsche stated in his book “The Gay Science:”

“God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him.” -Friedrich Nietzsche

Sometimes I think: did we kill God? And if we did, then how, and how can it justify the current social culture on Earth?

Did We Kill God or Is It Just Nietzsche’s Bluff?

This question must have two answers: yes and no.

If we come to its literal meaning, then no, we haven’t killed God, and no one ever can do this. And when we talk about Nietzsche’s mind, then yes, we have killed God, and observing the current situation of society tells us God will remain dead.

But what did we kill God with, according to Nietzsche?

Nietzsche stated his famous statement about God, indicating that we are so into sins, pleasure, and enjoyment that we think God doesn’t exist. We won’t be judged in front of him, which makes us believe in him.

After covering the basics, I must come to the topic of my piece.

Why Does God Reveal the Concept of Heaven and Hell?

Let’s start from the beginning. Allah commanded all angels and Iblees (who was a Jinn raised to the rank of angels due to his intense devotion) to prostrate to Prophet Adam.

Iblees refused out of arrogance, claiming he was superior because he was made of fire, while Adam was made of clay. When banished, Iblees requested life and time until the Day of Resurrection to prove his point.

His whole point was that humans are ungrateful, easily misled, and destructive, and till the Day of Judgement he will continue to prove his point. God granted him that respite but declared that Iblees would have no authority over His true, sincere servants.

The universe became a stage for this ultimate test of free will. Unlike angels, who obey automatically, humans possess the choice to do good or evil. The existence of Heaven and Hell serves as the final destination for those choices.

Allah's mercy is designed to outweigh His wrath; even when humans fall into Iblees's traps, the door of sincere repentance (tawbah) remains open until their very last breath.

So, God has declared a clear path for us to do good and have Heaven, and if we are trapped in Iblees’s trap, we can ask for repentance. But if we continue to obey Iblees, then we have to face the consequences of living in Hell for no end.

This is a serious theological and philosophical piece, and if you have come to this point, then I must tell you that it is only my point of view and what I know about this topic. I didn’t have any intention to hurt someone’s feelings.

Heaven and Hell are not just carrot-and-stick incentives; they are the necessary boundaries that give free will actual consequences. Without them, the cosmic test between Iblees and humanity would have no ultimate stakes.
